Some character concept art for my next film. It was supposed to just be a stand alone piece but it slowly evolved into more than that. I haven't done a full digital painting in a while so it was nice getting to do this. I was inspired by Satoshi Kon's portraits; they're just so hauntingly beautiful.

"Arrival" is about a boy struggling with the decision to come out to his mother. Instead of confronting his problems, he chooses to push away the ones he loves most.

Her expression holds painstaking longing and sorrow, and her hair... is absolutely marvelous, just marvelous. The lighting and shadows, this whole piece is amazing.
